Restoration work requires time and patience. When removing , care should be taken not cause further damage to the already fragile window or the surrounding stonework. Once back at the studio , the window is systematically pulled apart , and the glass pieces set aside in their correct positions so that we can 'fill in the gaps ' , and repaint the pieces that have been lost or damaged. The painting , using oxides , requires a steady hand , and often requires multiple kiln firings to achieve the correct colour or hue. Once all the pieces are in place , it is leaded up in the conventional manner , puttied with a linseed oil putty and reinstalled in all it's former glory. Some of these windows are priceless , so great care must be taken when working on them.
